We've just completed the installation of our Dow Blue Board on the entire exterior of The Incredibly Green Home. The primary advantage of this application is that it gives us a bit of a thermal break between the wood in the wall assembly and the exterior. We only put on the 1/4" stuff, so it's only R 1.0, but we think its an important step. This is the first time we've used this product on the exterior, but it seems to have good acceptance in the industry. Using the 1/4" also makes it easier to install the trim and siding.
Of course, we have the 2" version of the same blue board on the interior of the Thermomass foundation walls, so all of the vertical surfaces on the home are covered in styrofoam. Going forward, we'll be putting 2" or 3" under the slab, so it looks like Dow is quickly establishing a strong presence on Bethesda Bungalows projects.
