Production begins on The Incredibly Green Home

November 5th, 2008 Chevy Chase, MD

Production begins today on The Incredibly Green Home of Chevy Chase, a showcase of the latest high end and affordable green products, technologies, and methods.

The first on-site phase of the project will be recycling the existing home at 5133 Fairglen Lane, Chevy Chase, Maryland. Second Chance Inc., a Baltimore deconstruction and architectural salvage non-profit corporation today began pulling up flooring and removing valuable fixtures for reuse.

The Incredibly Green Home will be built by Bethesda Bungalows, a local custom home builder specializing in Craftsman, bungalow and prairie-style homes. The home was designed by Christian Gladu of the Bungalow Company of Bend, Oregon. A noted author and home designer, Gladu is a long time advocate of sustainable home building.

The Incredibly Green Home will be LEED for Homes Platinum certified, the highest level of achievement on the LEED scale. The U.S. Green Building Council has developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, which encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.

The home will also be Energy Star certified. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to help us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
