Green Building

Green BuildingGreen Building Philosophy:

Bethesda Bungalows is committed to building socially responsible homes. At every stage of construction, our standard building practices incorporate many “green” features that would be considered upgrades with other builders. These practices include improvements in all stages including the foundation, framing, HVAC, insulation, and finish materials selections.

Historically, bungalows have always been among the most efficient homes, simply by their modest footprint. They were the home for the average American, and their energy needs matched the budget of the owner.

LEED and NAHB Certification:

Bethesda Bungalows will carry your home through the LEED certification process, the standard established by the US Green Building Council for Green Building. As of February 17th, 2010, we are anxiously awaiting the certification of our project at 5133 Fairglen Lane, Chevy Chase to become LEED for Homes Platinum certified and NAHB/NGBS Emerald. This home may be the first in the nation to achieve both certifications. We have partnered with Andrea Foss of Everyday Green to be our LEED Provider, and Elysian Energy as our verifiers of the NAHB certification. Please check back for updates on this exciting development!

We also have two additional projects under construction that will be LEED certified.  One is a custom home at 5120 Fairglen Lane, Chevy Chase and the other is at 4234 Everett St, Kensington.

What is LEED?

LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. - From the US Green Building Council website.

Building a Healthy Home:

IAP Specification | Bethesda Bungalows

If you are concerned with a healthy environment in your home, we recommend following the guidelines set forth in the Energy Star Indoor Air Package which has recently been renamed Indoor airPLUS. Update: January 1st, 2010. The Incredibly Green Home has passed the Indoor AirPLUS inspection!

Through a third-party inspection process, this guideline helps “builders meet the growing consumer preference for homes with improved indoor air quality and energy efficiency. By constructing homes that meet EPA's stringent specifications, forward-thinking builders can distinguish themselves by offering homes that have earned this designation.” Bethesda Bungalows will help you through the process of making your home a healthy home.
