Many of you heard that the creators of the movie "Transformers 3" were in DC last week, shooting footage for their upcoming release. There was explosions, fireworks, and even an upscripted car accident.
We've had our own amazing tranformation right here on Puller Drive in Kensington. We are getting close to wrapping up a complete remodel for the Watson family and WOW what a change! We went from a humble rambler to an elegant four-square.

On the new second floor, we added three bedrooms, and two full baths. We are completely remodeling the first floor, including a brand new and expanded chef's kitchen. Stay tuned for interior shots.

The Bethesda Green Gala was held on the evening of Thurday, October 7th at the Imagination Stage. Bethesda Bungalows was a "Forest" level sponsor of the event, and what an evening it was! The place was packed and a positive energy flowed throughout the room.
The night started out with an elegant reception in the lobby, followed by an auction to benefit Bethesda Green.
The guest list included Ike Leggett and George Leventhal from the Montgomery County Council, Seth Goldman from Honest Tea, representatives from numerous alternative energy companies, and Steve Hull, publisher of Bethesda Magazine. Bethesda Bungalows were joined by their guests Andrea and Asa Foss.
Kudos go out to Dave Feldman and his staff at Bethesda Green - thanks for a great time!

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has selected the team of Therrien Waddell and Bethesda Bungalows to construct the Net Zero Energy Residential Test Facility (NZERTF), on the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
The facility will be used to demonstrate the viability of the Net Zero Energy concept for a residential structure. The NZERTF will generate as much energy on an annual basis as it consumes when operated in a manner that mimics a residence occupied by a family of four. The facility is also targeted to be LEED for Homes Platinum certified, and EPA Indoor airPLUS certified. The project is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The winning team was chosen based on their experience in building homes with similar standards and complexity. In 2009, Bethesda Bungalows completed the first LEED Platinum home in Montgomery County, and has extensive experience in building homes with tight thermal envelopes and ultra-efficient mechanical systems.
Groundbreaking is expected to begin in November of 2010, with completion slated for January 2012. Stay tuned for further details on this exciting development!

We had a fascinating group of visitors two weekends ago. A delegation from the government of the Ukraine stopped by our offices to discuss the latest in green building technologies. They were referred to us from an "unknown source" at the U.S. State Department. Peter spent about an hour and a half with them including a full tour of Bungalow Row.
In all, there were six members of the group, including Novikova Larysa, Head of Energy Efficiency at the Department of Housing and Municipal Reform Strategy, and Kateryna Chernyavska of the National Agency on Ensuring Efficient Use of Energy Resources. Most of their questions revolved around materials, thermal envelope and HVAC systems. They were particularly impressed with the variety of designs on the street.
We were honored to be given the chance to show how things are done here in America, and as they say in the Ukraine - "Bud'mo!" (Cheers!)

I am happy to announce that Bethesda Bungalows will be moving to our new offices at the end of September. The new location will be:
5410 Butler Road
Suite 200
Bethesda MD 20816
The office will be right above the Euro Motorcars "Appearance Center", with ample parking for our customers and employees.
The new space will give us a much improved area for meetings, better plan storage, and larger space for our salespeople and accounting staff. We'll also be getting a new phone system, a new large format printer/scanner, and a new network server for added performance and security.
Our phone number (301-652-7299) and fax line (301-656-2776) will remain the same. If you are in the area, stop by for a visit.
Here's Chad doing some final trimout.
